Thanks George, I went over to the site and found it to be a very interesting place. The Sony-IMAX theater will be the 1st one in the SF downtown area and should be a big draw from both tourists and convention goers. It is just a short distance from the Musconi Convention Center and from BART stations. We will have to make a trip over to California to see the place later this year. It is also only a couple of blocks away from our favorite SF restaurant, LuLu's, on Folsom St. on the other side of the convention center.

We did go down to Phoenix to the AZ Mills IMAX theater on Sunday and saw the T. Rex film in 3D and although impressed with the special effects, found the story-line left something to be desired. Too many close-ups of the young gal lead actress for me. It would have been much better to have had these special effects tied in with an fantasy adventure story rather than having it skip back and forth from the present to various dates in the past and then all the way back to the Cretaceous no less. The Jurrasic Park story-line was much stronger. I think they need to find some better script writers. The actual 3D shots of the computer generated dinosaurs were worth the price of the ticket though... it is hard to believe how they were able to do this sort of thing.

There was an interesting post up on the Yahoo IMAXF thread this morning which gave a url over to a site where they were telling of the trials and tribulations in getting the shots of the Proton rocket taking off from the Cosmodrome with the first module for the International Space Station. It was an good read and it showed the hardships of shooting a 3D IMAX film in such a remote place and difficult culture. The 3D space movie is due for release in the spring of 2001. It should be quite a draw. We have seen all of the present space IMAX films and loved them all!

I will repost the message here, check the site out...

Imax cinematographer James Neihouse is currently working on an Imax 3-D film which will document the building of the International Space Station. The film is due for completion in early 2001. Here is a link to his webpage where he gives a fascinating account (with color photos) of his trip last Fall to the Baikonur Cosmodrome to shoot the first ISS launch on a Proton rocket:

There were some other good posts on the Yahoo thread just in case you don't often get over there. Something about news in reference to IMAX and Disney joint venture coming out in the next week and a half. I do hope so. Mel
