Cute. So you watch two channels on cable! ggg. Research and focus group data show no evidence of panic, but an absolute dearth of focus. Indeed, the general data fits your profile pretty closely. Don't worry, be happy. Panic is a legitimate concern, but ya know what? Most panic springs from a simple lack of information of any sort. Give people a little information, and they'll often seek out more. Give 'em a LOT of info, useful and otherwise, and it's amazing how quickly they can sort through it all to get to the point, or at least find someone in their circle of contacts whom they trust to make sense of it for them. Gloss over everything and feed them a steady diet of your mind set, however, and damn if they don't choose the path of least resistance, i.e., do nothing.
I'd rather scare 'em now and let 'em get it out of their system so that they can think more rationally about the situation and hopefully be motivated to at least contemplate how to take care of themselves, their family, etc. You would rather stand on the corner and argue with everyone that there is nothing to worry about, ignore the big, bad media, don't worry, be happy. Glad you don't live in my neighborhood! ggg.
RE the article, I did read it, as you should have surmised. If stories like that concern you, then cancel your cable and newspaper (assumption on my part) subscriptions, cover your eyes and buy earplugs. Y2K is coming whether you like it or not. Deal with it. |
