Adams, Harkness & Hill, who gives an initial coverage of "Strong Buy" rating to AMKR among other 6 brokerage houses today, is a small but absolutely no-nonsense research institute in Boston, MA. Because the institute does not manage a lot of money itself, all their analysts do is research and recommendation. Unlike many mutual funds and investment bankers, who upgrade a stock right before selling, excellent research and good reputation are the most valuable asset of Adams, Harkness & Hill.

All their analysts covering technology companies have substantial industrial experience and background with an advanced engineering or science degree. Many of the analysts themselves in Adams, Harkness & Hill are engineers or scientists. These guys always keep close contact with engineers, sales people, marketing managers, and executives related to the companies they cover and, from time to time, get tips from a wink or vague body language -:)

It is unlikely that these sell-side analysts from Adams, Harkness & Hill would risk their reputation and career, just like the investment God John Neff recently, to give a "Strong Buy" rating just right before AMKR announces a poor earning quarter and goes bust.
