jbe - I would not expect SWS to fall "as abruptly as it has risen" due to the fact that Southwest ALREADY has significant profits and a low P/E.

The more general questions you asked is why are companies with no earnings doing better than others with them. The scope of this question is far beyond SWS. In general, the market is pricing intenet stocks based on future potential rather than current P/E.

P/E is only one variable to look at of many. Remember a year ago when everyone thought YHOO and AMZN were way overpriced based on P/E analysis? Those who shorted were crushed.

I wouldn't worry about SWS falling sharply. They have a good business plan, current earnings, a division with .com in it's name, and fundamentally looks very strong.
