A word or two about yesterday's press release - desperate or not?

Just a shot in the dark here about the NR, but perhaps Bid.Com was merely trying to catch some of the enthusiasm received by eBay for Mark McGuire's 70th homerun baseball.

I know millions of dollars for a one-of-a-kind collector's item is in a different league than Michael Jordan 'Last Shot' Audio Cards, but they are collectibles nevertheless.

At the least, it is very possible that Bid.Com's intentions were to widen interest in on-line auctions to those who haven't yet been inspired to visit one, such as "look at all the neat stuff you can get here and nowhere else". Or maybe they were merely trying to get those U.S. investors who crave eBay stock to take a look North of the border.

Now I refer to my post where I included the National Post Commentary titled "Why Some Internet Stocks are Hot While Others are Just Hot Flashes" (like I'm getting now LOL) --

[Amazon's] type of lock-in is not likely as strong as eBay's. Just as in the real world, people are fickle and like variety - especially when they can get almost the same thing down the block. Remember how you gave up on the friendly neighborhood store when the superstore opened up a few blocks away. And on the Internet, your competitor is never more than a few nanoseconds away.

Now, I wonder if BII was trying to differentiate themselves from most other online auctions?

Phew!

Denise.
