More speculation -

This is speculation that something big might be announced.

I got this from the Yahoo AMD message board so I don't have a direct link to the news. This is from thestreet.com

"Montgomery Tech Week: Is
Something Cooking at AMD?
By TSC Staff

2/3/99 4:33 PM ET

SAN FRANCISCO -- If any company's wondering how to build
suspense about a deal it has in the works, just ask Advanced
Micro Devices (AMD:NYSE). AMD today canceled its Thursday
morning presentation at the Nationsbanc Montgomery Tech
Week conference. AMD also canceled another presentation at
Goldman Sachs' investment conference next week.

So what's it all about? "We are not saying," said AMD spokesman
Scott Allen. "All I can do is confirm the facts. We canceled
tomorrow's presentation and we canceled Goldman Sachs."

News of AMD's move came shortly after CDnow (CDNW:Nasdaq)
pulled out of its Montgomery presentation unannounced.

The news must be big. This is a company run by CEO W. J. "Jerry"
Sanders, a man who doesn't exactly hide from the cameras. Even if
it's too early to talk about a deal, the company could have sent
someone out to give investors Sanders' spiel about fighting off the 800-pound gorilla known as Intel
(INTC:Nasdaq)."
