I agree with both of you on this issue - but I think the real news is the $$ amount. 100 million - to me that sends a message that the mainstream is not going to tolerate the tactics of the far right on this issue anymore. It will probably be overturned but nonetheless

For a while now the pro-life crowd has been engaged in all kinds of unscrupulous behavior with an attitude that the law doesnt matter. Example we have a local case here, where a girl was jailed in Ohio (UC Berkeley student) and while waiting for trial she wrote the judge asking for a leave or if the trial could be moved up so she could terminate an unwanted pregnancy. The judge deliberately delayed the trial to prohibit her from a legal abortion, and then "threw the book at her" so that she was forced to have the baby and was unable to return to Ca where an abortion would have been legal (Ohio has more restrictive abortion laws, or its harder to find a Dr - not sure). Anyway this behavior is unacceptable as far as the mainstream is concerned and I see a shift in tolerance from the moderates, the extreme groups are going to see more resistance I think.

Over the weekend someone was questioning whether the majority of people are now pro-life. THEY ARE NOT!! It is just that the pro-life crowd yells louder.

BTW heres the Salon article on the verdict:
