John, I have started to keep a log from the time I hit enter and the time I know my trade went through or I see the depth change on a buy or sell. Time of day(internet being busy) does play a part but the 50 /month paid for cable has been well worth it. I use a P-133 with 96 ram and 16mg video card ,win 98+, and hooked to cable makes all the difference in the world. Usually have 4 IE pages (SI, MRCI futures,e-trade, &scotia discount) open and 5 Netscape (SW news, SW marketview, 80 CDN stocks running RT live sorted by volume-may add a few to this during the day, 20 Nasdaq stocks running RT live sorted by volume, and a spare SW open along with 4 or 5 market depths and a intra-day chart. I have noticed the ram fills up around 12-1 PM so until I increase this ram I have been closing a couple windows in order to keep the speed up for the final hrs of trading. I have the resource meter going so I can see just how loaded the system is at a glance. Still just have the 17 " monitor so it does get crowded but until I move up to the 400 with NT, this will do. Off work today and tomorrow.. hope it is a better trading day than today. Hate it when I get days off and it is dead out there. Overall though, with the trades and changes to orders that I put through when I am on a day off, I still say that NS is slightly improving things, in Calgary at least.
