Rob, the only problem with that theory is that other mfgers. have looked at iDEN phones before and decided that they couldn't compete with MOT. It must have something to do with quantity but I can't imagine MOT holding up the deal. What can they expect to get in the way of an exclusive concession? A year? Two years? Besides, WCOM can't sit still for having only one source. NXTL didn't have a choice, given that much of their 800 MHz licenses were bought from MOT. I expect that NXTL will explode its adds, perhaps doubling their customer base within a year. I'm looking forward to hearing 4th qtr. adds but I expect that NXTL is still on a 1.5 million or so annual net adds pace. WCOM will kick that up by 50%-75% within 6 months. What would adds look like if MCI offers a consumer product ala PCS's $29.99 per month offering? And the cell sites to blanket their markets ala analog will go up lickety-split as capex will fall into NXTL in sufficient quantities to get the job done quickly.

I wonder how Nextel Partners fits into the deal. Obviously NP knew exactly what was going on. My guess is that NP will continue as is with existing ownership remaining (NXTL owns 35% or so) and at the appropriate time WCOM would buy NP and own the whole enchilada, hot sauce and all.

P.S. I forgot one minor detail: They have to announce a deal first. Details, details. :-) Maybe those guys wandering the halls are from Mars instead of WCOM. And maybe I'm the Easter Bunny. (Check that - I AM the Easter Bunny!)
