Bloomberg News

Beijing, Feb. 4 (Bloomberg) -- A Chinese maker of herbal medicines has won approval for a cheaper rival to impotence drug Viagra and plans to market it under the Chinese name which Viagra's maker intended to use when it began selling on the mainland, the Financial Times reported. Shenyang Feilong Health Products will sell eight ''Weige'' -- or ''big brother'' -- pills for 11 yuan ($1.33), while smuggled Viagra now sells for 430 yuan per pill, the paper said. Pfizer Inc., Viagra's US manufacturer, which has to conduct clinical trials that the herbal drug did not have to go through, is still waiting for approval to sell on the mainland, FT said.

Hong Kong's Legislative Council last week approved the local sale of Viagra for HK$100 ($12.92) per pill.
