Shane,

Since you're interested in gorilla candidates, I'll mention one that many aren't aware of -- Gemstar (GMSTF). Gemstar is the owner of the VCR Plus product that sets your VCR to record the proper channel at the proper time using one-button programming. It uses the numeric codes found in publications all over the world.

That's where they've made their money in the past, but the real growth, if successful, will come from their interactive electronic program guides for televisions and set-top boxes. Their technology is licensed by the Who's Who of consumer electronics companies and they have a joint marketing agreement with Microsoft that uses the technology in Windows 98 and WebTV. The real kicker is that they will not only derive revenue from the licenses, their technology is so important that they are able to negotiate shared revenue from e-commerce and advertising.

There is a slew of lawsuits with the two largest set-top box manufacturers and their biggest competitor for infringement of patents. They've been increasing earnings rapidly without the income they feel they should have been getting from those sources. They've never lost in court yet.

Like Lucius, I also own Siebel, Citrix and am seriously looking at EMC. I guess we'll go down together if these potential gorillas blow up.
