Philip - Re: "are there any sound reasons for a 3rd party to acquire the whole shebang? " Buying AMD means taking on Intel. IBM tried - and lost (486/Blue Lightning/PowerPC) TI tried - and lost. Compaq - they have the Alpha Albatross - and they already own a chunk of AMD from the NexGEN buyout. NSM bought Cyrix - they are DROWNING in Red Ink and Continual Product Delays. Maybe SUN wants to take a direct "slap shot" at Intel. Paul
