If you were Excite or AltaVista, would you want to let YHOO get far ahead of you offering ebill presentment? Wouldn't you want to get your site underway asap and publicize it, gaining a progressive image, while YHOO keeps it under wraps. If you were Lycos, wouldn't you want the same, or would you be stupid enough (maybe!) to sign up with TrashPoint and risk being not weeks, but months or even years behind the offerings of your competitors, by relying on an organization which has a demonstrated ability to not only be late, but not even able to deliver commercially, 1-1/2 or 2 years after their first "release date." If you ran one of these organizations, Sam, you would beg Checkfree to not only sign the deal now, but publicize it at once. If the name of the game is eyeballs, wouldn't it be nice to be assured of monthly visitors, come thick or thin? If Amazon is to become the seller of almost all goods on the net, shouldn't they offer bills for everything, too? The race is on, even the banks should get the picture now. Their own data concludes that it is easier to hold on to an ebanking customer than one who visits their branches. With this in mind, how long will it take them to figure out this loyalty may pass instead to brokers, mutual fund organizations, and portals if they don't move to capture those clients now. |
