I saw bid/price inversion once, and it was in HTSF, a stock I believe the MM's were/are heavily short on. Then a slew of tiny little trades came across, as the ask slowly returned to normal.

If it was meant to engender fear, it didn't work. :-) Other than that, I can't understand what the reason for doing it was. I doubt it was a screw-up, MM's might make them occasionally, but I don't expect to see one.
