"Why do you think MIFGY missed the opportunities in db, lack of vision/leadership or false belief that COBOL will live forever?"

I believe you mean DP above. I was referring to the DP departments.
I crated an example(prototype) of a COBOL/CICS application for a mainframe project using MIFGY Cobol workbench with CICS in 1989/90. At that time I would guess that most programmers did not have PCs connected to their mainframe. There were a lot of 3270 terminals still around. Still, the fact that they had emulators for IMS, CICS, Assembler, and DB2 leaves one wondering why the development tasks never migrated in mass to the pc platform. Cullinet (now CA owned) came out with IDMS/PC. It flopped, but then again it worked poorly, if at all. However, it did get tryouts and was noticed. They tried to push it. The deal with infoseek may generate more interest for MIFGY than their own marketing efforts. Perception has done a lot in driving business in this field. I think if you look historically at MIFGY you may find its stock at high around 35 some years ago after which it down trended until the Y2K runup. If it weren't for the lawsuits, I like this price level and would like to get back in.
