Market looks hopeful today; methinks it's finding a new base level about now, whshew. Wasn't around much today and happy to see The Close was very nice. I guess WS is happy with Greenspeak, whatever it was he said - I'll read it tomorrow. Doubleplusgood. More 909's coming soon probably. I've noticed, though, that more and more spinoffs are IPO's instead of being issued to shareholders. Alta Vista from CPQ may be (I hope not) another one. There's some kind of new tax thing to Companies on spinoffs coming down the pike that made ATT change its mind about issuing a tracking stock, I read in WSJ today - can't transfer link from WSJ but if you have subscription look up ATT and you'll see it. Looks to me like this and that NAS/SEC agreement about the new OTC reporting requirements soon to come might be subtle ways of slowing down the "Exhuberance" of the Market without doing direct things like raising interest rates or cg taxes. Takes so much of the fun out of it; best things in the world are getting more shares from splits and brand new companies from spinoffs, dontcha think? My next project is buying a few more LU now in view of the next split. A few more ATT wouldn't hurt either. In midst of some disappointment with MLRE but hope it'll be okay - magazine released early, .com site not ready on 2/2 schedule, a juggernaut of confusion - so am watching it real close and maybe getting skittish enough to sell at a loss if just one more big promise doesn't materialize. The problem is, the spec definition of the investment is pushing the edge towards being called a gamble at this point. And I don't like to gamble all by myself with stocks, leaving that to Vegas & AC recreation money. It's more common in the pennies than the bigger markets but oh well it can go on anywhere. (I guess it's all relative because many would call any internet stock a gamble not an investment LOL). But got some good news on DIS - I saw an ad after ABC news tonight that said it's now part of the (disney) go.com site. So that thing looks to be coming together nicely, anyway. Thinking about CBS, it will be largely aligned with AOL now. And I saw an ad for GE Capital (NBC) having all to do with internet business development assistance, from funding to website design to tech support, etc. veerrrrry intterrrreessssting. Uh oh look at that time, Goodnight pals, Joan |
