I talked with a rep from graphon, and he seems to think that JBridge wont be released til the end of 1999. In my cynical reality, this means that late 2000 will be a release date, for a product aiming to be compatible with a moving target (win32). I don't have high hopes for JBridge.
Well, GraphON gave 25% of their company to Corel in exchange. Between that, the brokering involvement of Sun, the First Unity acquisition, a private placement seemingly aimed at rapid JBridge advancement, it's hard to give huge weight to what the GraphON rep supposed. This is some pretty high dollar activity. According to the money, JBridge will be more sooner than later. Just the same, I'll see what I can pull out of two IR depts (assuming First Unity has someone).
On a side note, I think the 'moving target' nature of Win32 API is coming into a period of greater scrutiny and therefore will not be the same type of shell game as in the past. Anyway, the guys (engineers) on JBridge are the creme d' la creme of Corel's rather accomplished moving target snipers.
I keep asking myself, what happens here when the remedy of DOJ -v- M$ ends up being an order to M$ to document the Win32 API?
