JS, I did manage to do some further research on this matter and I am glad to report that there are some Irian Jaya peoples who continue to maintain honored culinary traditions. Farther inland from Dayak territory, there are two tribes as yet uncorrupted by use of Hamburger Helper.

The Asmats and the Mimayaks have been happily munching on each other for centuries. In fact, the Mimayak word for the Asmat tribesmen, "Womonay," literally means "The Tasty Ones." Rumor has it that the Asmats were the ones who probably served up Michael Rockefeller (son of Nelson Rockefeller III) for breakfast in the early 1950's when he disappeared without a trace upriver in Asmat territory while trying to trade with the Asmats (he apparently had this thing for Asmat pottery and was attempting to corner the worldwide Asmat ceramic market). Note that this has never been confirmed and I believe the Rockefeller clan to this day prefers to believe that he drowned when his boat capsized.

Recipes tend towards the rustic side, baking underground being a primary mode of preparation. Spit roasting is also apparently acceptable as an alternative. Garnishes tend to run to manioc and similar roots as well as breadfruit. I have not been able to confirm whether sweet potatoes are native to Irian Jaya, so you may have to "wing it."

FYI, the most famous tribe in Irian Jaya is the Dani, which are the ones who wear the enormous penis gourds. However, there is little evidence to indicate that the Dani have customarily engaged in anthropophagy.
