Another version from the meeting. COOL news...I must say.
Cyberian Outpost (COOL) said it now has 260,000 customers, up from
210,000 at the end of its third quarter in November. Chief Executive Darryl
Peck, speaking at the NationsBanc Montgomery Securities tech
conference in San Francisco, said he's negotiating more portal alliances "as
we speak." Peck said international sales are contributing15 percent of
revenue year to date, less than last year because of the rapid growth of
domestic sales. Chief Financial Officer Katherine Vick said the company is
comfortable with analysts' fourth-quarter estimates. She also said Cyberian
Outpost sees long-term margin rising to 15 percent from the current 10
percent. Vick said she foresees the company reaching the break-even point
by midyear 2001. Responding to questions about retailers selling below or at
cost, the CFO said, short term, that needs to be dealt with, but she added
that she doesn't think vendors will appreciate their "products being
discounted as a business" and thus may not be willing to advertise.
