Thursday February 4, 8:10 am Eastern Time Company Press Release SUNCOM Forms Strategic Alliance With DVC Interactive for Interactive Marketing and Web Site Development VANCOUVER, British Columbia--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 4, 1999-- SUNCOM Telecommunications Inc. (OTC BB:SNLMF) Thursday announced that it has formed a strategic alliance with DVC Interactive (DVCI), a subsidiary of Dugon Valva Contess Inc. of Morristown, N.J.
Under the agreement, SUNCOM and DVCI will reciprocally refer new business prospects and provide services to certain clients and customers of the other party. SUNCOM will provide transaction processing, technical support and fraud protection services to certain customers of DVCI.
SUNCOM, through its exclusive worldwide licensing agreement with VirtualSellers.com, provides Internet-based transaction processing and other eCommerce services to small and medium-size businesses. DVCI provides interactive marketing services and Web site development primarily for larger companies. DVCI's clients include AT&T (NYSE:T - news), Merrill Lynch (NYSE:MER - news), Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:JNJ - news), Coca-Cola (NYSE:KO - news) and Bristol Myers Squibb (NYSE:BMY - news), among others.
''We are very proud of our association with DVCI, which has an outstanding reputation as a world-class marketing services and Web development company. This will allow us to satisfy the needs of a much wider audience.
''We will be able to serve larger customers for eCommerce transaction processing while DVCI will provide Web site development and high-level design and marketing services that are beyond our scope internally,'' said Dr. Dennis Sinclair, chief executive officer of SUNCOM.
DVCI is a full-service strategic, creative and technical company, which enables its clients to use the Internet and other interactive technologies to drive their businesses. In anticipation of the rapidly approaching broadband environment, DVCI also has developed ARIES, a new online advertising model which is based on the principals of cognitive psychology.
VirtualSellers.com provides businesses with a customized, secure, total eCommerce service for selling their products over the Internet immediately. This offers a significant advantage to the great majority of small and medium-size businesses that do not wish to spend several months and tens or perhaps hundreds of thousands of dollars developing eCommerce functionality on their own sites.
VirtualSellers.com generates transaction fees for each sale and has capabilities similar to some of the leaders of Internet commerce such as Inktomi (Nasdaq:INKT - news), iMall (Nasdaq:IMAL - news), eBay (Nasdaq:EBAY - news) and uBid (Nasdaq:UBID - news).
However, because VirtualSellers.com performs the complete transaction, including payment processing and credit verification, it is able to earn a higher fee per sale than its competition, which typically pass collection of payment to the product seller. SUNCOM has made the successful transition from the low margin long-distance business to a customer-care provider, servicing and outsourcing large users of inbound toll-free telephone numbers, handling customer care and concentrating on outsourcing of customer- service facilities.
The recent creation of SUNCOM Internet and integration of VirtualSellers.com allows SUNCOM to offer merchants both inbound toll-free telephone ordering and Internet-based transaction processing services.
