The Bombay Company, Inc. Announces January Sales
FORT WORTH, Texas, Feb. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- The Bombay Company, Inc. (NYSE: BBA - news) reported today that total sales for the four week period ended January 30, 1999 were $22.1 million compared to $24.3 million for the corresponding period of the prior year. Same store sales for Bombay stores in existence for more than one year decreased 11%.
For the quarter and the fifty-two week periods, same store sales increased 2% and 6%, respectively, when compared to the prior year. Total sales for the fourth quarter increased 4% to $130.6 million from $125.3 million the prior year. For the fifty-two week period, total sales were $356.9 million representing a $24.3 million or 7% increase compared to last year.
Robert S. Jackson, Chief Executive Officer, stated, ''The Company was disappointed with the softness in January sales particularly with respect to furniture. For the fourth quarter, we now expect earnings to be at or somewhat below last year's levels.''
