wily - 6 pounds is not too bad. The Inspiron 7000 model (with the ATI chip) is really a monster and weighs in at 8 1/2 pounds. It is really used mostly as a desktop replacement and probably spends most of it's life plugged in on somebody's desk. It really depends on how you want to use the notebook. If your sister spends a lot of time in airports traveling, I would get her one of the much lighter smaller ultra portables. They are really slick and they all have Neo inside.
