MARKET ALERT
from The Wall Street Journal Interactive Edition.

Feb. 4, 1999

Stocks sank early Thursday as blue chips posted moderate losses and
large-capitalization technology shares tumbled. The Dow Jones industrials
dropped 87 points to 9280, while the tech-heavy Nasdaq composite fell 60
points, or 2.4%, to 2433.80. Chip stocks fell after influential Merrill
Lynch analyst Thomas Kurlak made negative comments about Intel and Advanced
Micro Devices.
