"The Brother's K " is probably the greatest novel ever written. As for Conrad, try "Lord Jim". The first 50 pages or so are a little slow, but after that it moves well. In most contexts, Dole was a strong candidate. But incumbents have the advantage, and things were pretty good. It was his refusal to press the character issue in the debates, which I understand, that cost him the election, as much as anything else. Get off Willy Horton. The Bush campaign wasn't responsible, and the issue was legit, even if putting Willy's face on it was overkill. Dukakis, now there is a lousy candidate. No Hortonizing required.
