Patent purchases, Lanier, etc. Why would Intel or Lucent buy patents when they can be licensed from Edig? Maintaining exclusions or predatory practices are now what large companies are trying to avoid a la Microsoft. The device Lanier will offer will probably have the barcoder as an option not a requirement. The shipping to Lanier, which may start in March, will also require Beta testing at various test sites (probably hospitals)where Lanier's office systems are in place before a full-fledged rollout takes place. Be aware that shipping to Lanier equals money to Edig. Lycos announced yesterday they will eliminate links to pirated MP3 sites if the RIAA identifies these pirated sites to Lycos. Any action which reduces access to MP3 strengthens Lucent's and others position with the RIAA. I encourage all to focus on the music via-the-net industry as a path Edig is likely to be on big-time.
