To suggest that this is a "huge security risk", and that everybody should fear for their files tucked away on their hard drives because of a re-direct, does a great dis-service, and instills unnecessary paranoia among those unfamiliar with the technology.

IP tracking can be (and is) done anywhere. Everybody here has had their IP tracked whilst not knowing it. I would suggest that everybody turn off their modems if they're really bothered with it. Because if one is paranoid enough to relate a simple re-direct link to the stealing of their top secret stuff from their drives, then even a Fort Knox firewall isn't going to be enough security.

If Cheeky had simply put the http ref in a link in his profile, as so many people do, rather than a re-direct, the result would be exactly the same, albeit one additional click. You wouldn't necessarily know where you were going whether you click on his profile, or click on the link in his profile.

This issue has been blown waaayy out of proportion. Net surfers encounter re-directs and IP sniffing every single day. Let's try not to take the Howard Hughes approach&#151he lived a pretty miserable existence, clammed up in his hovel, paranoid of everything that moved.
