SAFLINK's Biometric Security Software Earns Top Honors
SAF/nt Receives Editors' Choice Award from PC Magazine and is Selected
as One of Network World Magazine's Ten Best Products of 1998
TAMPA, Fla., Feb. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- SAFLINK Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of The National Registry Inc. (Nasdaq: NRID), today announced that its SAF/nt release 2.0 security software was awarded PC Magazine's Editors' Choice Award for best enterprise network biometric authentication system. PC Magazine evaluated SAF/nt along with ten other biometric authentication products and concluded that SAF/nt was "one of the most versatile products in the Network PC market" with "an impressive array of features, well-designed controls, a user interface accompanied by thorough documentation, and support for a variety of biometric methods such as fingerprint, voice, and face recognition. An excellent choice for corporations considering biometric security for network-wide deployment, this system allows different access verification modes for the same user at different computers, letting administrators tailor security to the demands of the workplace."
The PC Magazine recognition followed the recent announcement from Network World that SAF/nt had been selected as one of that publication's top ten products for 1998. Network World had reviewed SAF/nt earlier in the year against four other leading network authentication solutions and gave SAFLINK its World Class Award for enterprise network security in recognition of SAF/nt's tight integration with Windows NT, enterprise networking infrastructure, multiple biometric authentication capability, and compliance with the Human Authentication API (HA-API) industry standard. SAF/nt was joined on the top ten list by Novell's NetWare 5, Compaq's ProLiant 1600, IBM's Netfinity 5000, Dell's PowerEdge 2300, Bardon Data Systems' Full Control 1.5, INSoft's VitalSuite 2.0, Mission Critical Software's Enterprise Administrator, Make Systems' NetMaker XA, and NetPro Computing's Config Central 2.0.
"SAFLINK is pleased to be honored by such prestigious computer industry publications," said Clinton C. Fuller, Chief Operating Officer of SAFLINK Corporation. "This recognition supports testimony from a growing number of enterprise customers that SAFLINK's standards-based, multi-biometric approach for network security provides a superior level of flexibility, reliability, and ease of implementation. These awards for SAF/nt, combined with Computer Associates recent selection of SAF/tng as Best Security Agent Developed for Unicenter TNG for 1998, pay tribute to the architectural design and development skills of our excellent engineering and quality assurance teams."
About SAF/nt
Secure Authentication Facility for Windows NT (SAF/nt) is a packaged software solution that seamlessly extends NT's standard log-in process to allow the presentation of a user's name and a unique biological characteristic, or biometric, instead of a password to prevent unauthorized access to network resources and applications. Biometrics have been proven to be more secure and cost effective than other authentication methods that can be easily forgotten, hacked, or transferred between individuals. SAF/nt eliminates the need for complex password rotation schemes that can cost millions in lost productivity and administrative overhead when implemented enterprise wide. The product supports multiple biometric technologies including fingerprint, speech, and facial image recognition, and is available from SAFLINK or from SAFLINK authorized resellers. The list price, including a fingerprint recognition biometric software module, is $149 per client workstation. Authentication server software, which runs under the Windows NT Server(R) operating system, is provided at no additional charge.
The system administrator installs SAF/nt software on Windows 95/98 or Windows NT client workstations in the network and on the Windows NT server(s) that functions as a biometric authentication server for the network. Once the desired biometric capture hardware device, such as a fingerprint scanner, sound card and microphone or video camera is installed on the client workstations along with the associated software, the system is ready to go.
SAF/nt is highly scaleable from a single workgroup server, to a large complex Windows NT network with multiple servers. User administration and biometric enrollment is performed and synchronized through the Windows NT User Manager and Server Manager utilities. SAF/nt supports a wide variety of biometric acquisition devices (finger scanners, video cameras, sound cards) and mixed environments of biometric authentication and password authentication to simplify the process of a phased implementation. SAF/nt also supports networks with both Novell servers and Windows NT domains. A single biometric logon will authenticate a user to both the Novell Directory Service and the Windows NT domain.
