I read this in a magazine in the IT library where I work. I believe it was Computer World. There was a whole article on the issue. They said Apple had $1.8 billion in cash, which made them look comfortable, but the situation was actually serious because they had so much short term debt. If I remember correctly they were including the cost of buying NeXT in the short term debt.

I will try to find the article, but that will have to wait until next week, since I am not going to work this week (I am taking a course).
