MORE GOOD NEWS ! Leading Korean Telecom Carrier Selects CA's Unicenter TNG To Increase Competitive Advantage in Local Markets Business Wire - February 04, 1999 11:25 SEOUL, KOREA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 4, 1999--
Hanaro Telecom Deploys CA's State-Of-The-Art Management Platform To Accelerate Problem Resolution, Maximize Performance And Enhance Enterprise Security
Computer Associates International, Inc. (CA) today announced that Hanaro Telecom, Inc. (Hanaro), the second largest local telecommunications carrier in Korea, is standardizing on CA's Unicenter TNG to optimize its extensive telecommunications network, thereby increasing competitive advantage while reducing IT costs.
Hanaro is deploying Unicenter TNG to manage and monitor all components of its telecommunications environment, including critical network elements, systems and applications. Using Unicenter TNG's unique Business Process Views, Hanaro technicians will be able to transcend mere element monitoring and actually manage telecommunications services on an end-to-end basis. By maximizing the availability and performance of these end-to-end services, Hanaro expects to boost customer satisfaction. Because Unicenter TNG extensively automates management and support tasks, the carrier expects to reduce costs - thereby boosting its ability to compete on price while maintaining profitability.
"Telecommunications is an intensely competitive business where effective, cost-efficient management of infrastructure can pay off in many ways," said Shi-Chan Lee, general manager of the Hanaro Telecom IT team. "Unicenter TNG's broad range of integrated, advanced management features will have tremendous strategic value to us as we move to deliver new services to consumer and business markets."
According to Shi-Chan, one of the most significant factors in selecting Unicenter TNG was its easy and quick implementation on the company's Sun Microsystems and Hewlett-Packard systems. "This is a very fast-moving market, and we need to see the results of any decision we make quickly," he explained. "Unicenter TNG started delivering benefits to us right out of the box, and it allows us to continue adding to those benefits in very short order."
As a former Siemens' Transview user, CA's close working partnership with Siemens was also a decisive factor for Hanaro. "We needed to ensure a seamless transition to our next-generation platform, and to leverage the extensive work we had done under Transview," said Shi-Chan. "Unicenter TNG was the only solution that could offer us this critical value."
Also important to Hanaro were Unicenter TNG's multi-platform support and broad range of management and support functions, which the company can add incrementally over time. After an initial implementation for performance and availability monitoring, Hanaro is adding workload and security management functions to its core Unicenter TNG deployment. "These functions are fully integrated with our infrastructure monitoring, so they significantly streamline load-balancing and security tasks," noted Shi-Chan. "That integration is what keeps your operational costs down, since you don't end up with fragmented processes and tools."
Hanaro Telecom, Inc. was founded jointly by subsidiaries of major conglomerates in Korea. The major stockholder is Dacom, Inc., the second largest telecommunications company in Korea. Dacom System Technology, Inc. (Dacom ST), a subsidiary of Dacom specializing in systems integration for telecommunications, is assisting CA and Siemens in the Transview to Unicenter TNG upgrade.
"Hanaro Telecom's decision dramatizes the strategic value Unicenter TNG can offer in the telecommunications sector," said Man-Jeong Ha, country manager, CA Korea. "It is also indicative of the respect CA continues to earn by offering outstanding software, service and business partnerships that help Korea's top companies meet their business objectives."
