>>I would be happy for company to say "Anaylst can't know how quarter will come out cause we don't yet." It is the silence that is once again killing this stock because street assumes given past history of 3com that it has leaked information, again.<<
yes, I agree that maybe it would be good for COMS to say something though they can't get into specific numbers. But, keep in mind, they just had a very extensive report to analysts around the 20th of Jan. They told them everything they know, which was for the most part very positive.
>>"once the analyst community gives the market the idea that the quarter is likely to be missed..."<<
Seems to me it was only DLJ that said something they can't even back up concretely. We did have one downgrade today, but 2 (I think) other positive words from other analysts.
This doesn't justify a 30% drop in the stock by any means.
In light of the above, yes, you do pose a good question. How much can we expect 3Com to say, even though they don't have enough information themselves to know the exact numbers, and it is a tough quarter for them. Maybe, this is what they tried to tell a few analysts a few days ago, and each one walked away with his/her own opinion, and is reflected by the variety of analysts releases. (which mostly says, no change of opinion). Seems the first thing analysts might do is check channel sources, but those are tricky to get right. Seems better to stick to what the guidance was from Jan 20, and stay with this, being that it was less than 2 weeks ago. Any thoughts anybody? |
