Carl, I recently downloaded the free Realplayer and have my browser's automatic connect feature enabled and RP has never attempted to access the Net on its own. You might try deleting the "smartstart" feature from your startup files. Go to settings, taskbar, and remove. Find RP on your list in the start folder and remove it. You can always put it back later. I'm running Win 98 and a 4.11 Internet Explorer Browser from Microsoft. Santiago
