Steve: ATHM question.

I was wondering what your opinion is on how long ATHM will enjoy the luxury of its virtual monopoly over high speed cable internet access? I see from the news headlines today that AOL, Mindspring, Rocky mountain, etc have formed a coalition to lobby that the FCC open up the cable pipes to all ISPs. Being fully vested in ATHM and not in any of the ISPs or AOL, I am very concerned about this situation. But, I have the ATHM service (switched from AOL) and am in love with ATHM. So, I am holding the stock in hopes that I am a good representation of the average person and am betting that other people discovering ATHM will flock to it also.

I cannot see AT&T investing in TCI/ATHM without feeling confident that the pipes will be not be forced open. Armstrong does not seem to be in the dark on this issue.

What do you think the FCC will do? Let T do all the upgrades and then open up the pipes up on them once they finished their rollout? I don't think that it would be fair for T to do all the upgrading and then handing it over for AOL and friends to play with. That's akin to the school bully taking the shiny new bicycle from another kid that had to mow lawns all summer to buy.

Thanks. -Adam
