By Kirstin Ridley

EDINBURGH, Feb 4 (Reuters) - U.S. technology giant Motorola Inc on
Thursday moved to claw back its title as manufacturer of the world's smallest and
lightest mobile telephone by launching its latest model in Europe, the Middle East
and Africa.

Nordic arch-rivals, Nokia <NOKSa.HE> of Finland and Sweden's Ericsson AB
<LMEb.ST>, said its new v3688 phone would reclaim the crown originally held
by its StarTAC handset.

scheduled for February 15, before the official British launch on February 18, this
phone would prove to be the ideal partner -- small, reliable and not in the way,

At the group's manufacturing site near the Scottish capital of Edinburgh, some of
the first v3688 phones are rolling off the production line and Motorola, which
plans to ramp up production next month, expects wide distribution by March....
