Raymond: It is a fact of life on Wall Street that short sellers often have the ear of certain journalists. What is interesting about the recent spate of negative articles and research on Iridium (beside the fact that it is appearing after the stock has declined to support) is that none of it comes from really well-known and respected sources. The closest I have seen to an article from a respected journalist who knows his stuff is a couple of pieces from Quentin Hardy of the Wall Street Journal. When I first read one of his pieces questioning the design of Iridium phones and the cost to the user, I telephoned him to ask if he had it "in" for Iridium. His response was "no". In fact, he went a step or two further, telling me he had great respect for the intelligence and professionalism of Iridium management and that if anyone had gotten the impression he was "against" Iridium to have them call him and he'd set them straight. I thought that was rather magnanimous of him.

I have never heard of "Jubak" of "Jubak's Journal", or Dave Sterman of Individual Investor online, nor do I have the greatest admiration for analysts like Marc Crossman and Robert Kaimowitz, who seem to migrate from firm to firm, for reasons I don't care to contemplate. Ever wonder why Abby Cohen has such a loyal following? At any rate, the output from the journalists and analysts I mentioned does not carry a great deal of weight, in my opinion; besides, Crossman's own research rating Globalstar a "buy" and Iridium a "market performer" carries the disclaimer that either the "analyst or research assistant has a position in Loral". How's that for objectivity?

I'll probably catch hell for this, especially after the long rant I posted the other night. I apologize in advance...I have no shame!
