Nokia Expects 1 Billion Global Wireless Subscribers By 2005

Dow Jones Newswires
February 4, 1999

SAN FRANCISCO -- Nokia Corp. (NOKA) said Thursday it expects worldwide wireless subscriptions to grow to 1 billion by the year 2005.

During a presentation at NationsBanc Montgomery Securities' conference on technology, Nokia's president of mobile phones in the Americas, Kari-Pekka Wilska said "this is a pretty big forecast given landline networks are close to 1 billion (subscribers) today."

The world's largest cellular handset manufacturer plans to make a broad product offering of mobile phones.

"To be a major player, you have to be in all technologies. We have introduced products for all categories, basic to high-communicators," Wilska said.
