David, IMO...I'd have to say things shouldn't take the same stonewall route as they have in the past, those have been pretty much nullified in the last couple years, and now the need to compete is very real for the Old protected monopolies. Even long distance companies will now compete with the local phone service...they now will turn on each other big time...all the while opening the door for private enterprise to compete within their traditionally protected markets. Broadband is what fuels the technology sector along with a major portion of the economy. It is now very complicated to find any sector of our society which isn't effected or touched by the Internet...Americans demand the end to the slowness and will get their broadband in one form or another...copper, cable or wireless...there is as much chance of stopping it as there is of taking the automobile away.

The digital satellite dish market was created by the ineptness of the cable companies to deliver quality TV signals with the programming choices people wanted. That's why cable companies aren't owned by cable companies much now. 1999 is the year of broadband, so remember these days...because in two or three years you won't believe the changes which are just now beginning to take place.

As you call it...the telopoly. They will get off their lazy duffs, or we will have them fired. Regulations to protect them are no longer politically safe things to do in government if it doesn't get us broadband connect speeds.

I now yield to some other wind bag. <g>
