******OFF TOPIC******
I wouldn't give you two cents for Baedeckers, or a lot of other travel books. When was the last time they were around this neck of the woods? We had their book, amongst others, when we traveled in Europe, and we found a lot of the stuff was either, outdated, or we found much better ourselves. Where you can get great info, that is right up to date, is the Internet, for almost anywhere you want to go. It tells you the location of the hotels, even picture of the rooms, rates, and where they are in relation to the tourist sights, overviews of the city you're visiting, train and bus schedules etc. etc.
You should look at the sites for B.C. and you will also get an idea of the diversity of the restaurants, including cheaper ones. In Victoria, for instance, you have Dutch, German Konditorei, Hungarian, Chinese, English, North American, Italian, Middle Eastern, French, Slavic, Vietnamese, etc. A veritable United Nations!
Baedecker's....Baaaa! Besides there's much more adventure in finding your own little hideaway, or bargain spot. Use your sense of adventure, my man! Best place for cheap food in any city is near a University. Students are notoriously broke all the time, so they usually have cheap restaurants close to them, usually with big portions, and surprisingly good food quite often, as well.
Cheers
