Loral Skynet Gets HNS VSAT Business
Hughes Network Systems, a leader in the VSAT business,
will use Loral Skynet's Telstar satellites to provide
satellite networking services from shared and dedicated
hubs in the United States.
The Telstar satellites will help distribute data, distance
learning, videoconferencing and business television
services to thousands of remote VSAT terminals throughout
the United States, Hawaii, Alaska and the Caribbean.
As part of the deal, Telstar satellites will support
VSAT network services for HNS' future networking shared
hub in Southfield, Mich. The hub will handle a number of
VSAT initiatives, including high-speed, high-bandwidth
services, distance education and business networking
solutions, and next-generation multimedia VSAT
offerings.
Loral Skynet provides a number of global data services
on Telstar satellites 4 and 5 and Orion 1, through Loral
Orion. Loral Orion offers satellite-based Internet services
to ISPs and multinational businesses worldwide, and provides
VSAT-based managed network services to corporate customers
around the world.
