I'm not very set up by the almond image. Had he said:

"I want to eat your skin like the wrinkled dark brown tissue of an almond"

I would be far more impressed. Old Pablo comparing a human female skin (like Ilse at Buchenwald) to a whole ivory chunk of nut is simply a absurd mixed metaphor. The lack of fear of hurt makes the verse a glossy, surface-sentimental dream, rather than a committed gritty, carnal, bloody-mouthed grapple of major mammals in heat, real natural love and lust. Very nice, perhaps, for tea on the veranda, but the raw-red thrashing in the rain forest requires something more engaged. Men. Women. It will never work!
