The pres, obviously very mixed. Most younger people, say 35 and under, wish he would stand up and say "Yeah she blew me", that would probably put his approval ratings in the low 80's. I borrow slightly from a Dennis Miller skit there. Older crowd is more mixed along with political background.
But what I mean is that most of the growth in this country is centered around high tech. True increasing layoffs in the rest of the work sectors can't be a good thing, but the true growth of this country isn't in most of the DOW companies.
Yep, the inability of the airlines to break new ground with fuel costs at extreme lows isn't good, for the airlines. Oh, don't forget about replacing meals with extra peanuts. heh heh heh. I think that IBM commercial "Who called this meeting" (or something like that) on CNBC makes a valid point about business travel. Teleconferences, email, high speed data networks, make for alot of face to face communication thousands of miles apart. Alot of deals no longer need to be done in person. That will only increase as bandwidth does.

Tobacco and oil, two industries I despise personally. I ask people at the bar, lots of smokers there, will they pay another 1$ per pack on top of current prices? YES, they're addicted, they admit it, but they are willing to pay ridiculous prices for smokes. I was traveling through Europe in late 1992, at the time there was a cigarette ban/shortage in Italy. People were hanging out at the train stations willing to pay 1$ US (yep, I sh*t you not) for ONE cigarette.

Sorry for the slight <OT> post.

More green tea for me, maybe an omlette, and some biggitty, biggitty,
BACON. Yo dats where all da flavah is.

Later,
D
