Spectrum Signal Processing Inc. Announces Support for Texas Instruments' TMS320C6x Processor Architecture
Product Developments Already Underway Utilizing Texas Instruments' New Family of DSPs
BURNABY, B.C., Feb. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Spectrum Signal Processing Inc. (Nasdaq NNM: SSPIF; Toronto: SSY), the industry leader in DSP solutions, announces its support of Texas Instruments' (T.I.) next generation architecture, the TMS320C6x processor. Spectrum has been working with TMS320C6x specifications for some time. The company is creating DSP-based advanced communications software and support silicon in addition to traditional DSP boards to support T.I.'s new C6x processor family; significant product announcements will be made in 1997 which will once again demonstrate the company's leadership and expertise in digital signal processing.
"We believe that the C6x family is revolutionary advancement in DSP design over past processor offerings," asserts Barry Jinks, president and CEO of Spectrum. "Being the largest board vendor in the DSP systems market, it's only natural that Spectrum provides full support for this architecture. In fact, DSP product developments which employ C6x processors are already underway."
Spectrum possesses unique capabilities for supporting the C6x processor family, such as extensive ASIC design experience and telecommunications application software developments for DSP customers. "While many of our competitors are unable to offer support silicon and DSP software, we are raising the standard by working closely with T.I. to develop ASICs and advanced communications software to bolster their C6x family," adds Barry Jinks.
The introduction of this new DSP processor family represents a milestone in the DSP industry, expanding the use of programmable DSPs to higher performance applications such as communications servers (remote access, data processing, call processing, Internet telephony and voice mail), wireless communications (surveillance, direction finding, CDPD, cell site test and analysis) and imaging. Combined with Spectrum's advanced technology, the TMS320C6x processor will afford new levels of price performance which were previously unattainable.
