Will,

Regarding SSYS's statement:
>>The Company(SSYS) believes that there is currently no other commercial producer of three-dimensional modeling devices that uses a single-step, non-toxic technology similar to the Company's FDM(R) and Genisys(TM) technologies. All other plastic model systems involve an additional post-processing step, such as curing the part after construction of the model or prototype. <<

I think Stratasys posted this information before 3D's Actua model began shipping. In addition, I am aware of another company called Sanders Prototype, Inc. which I believe also uses a single-step, non-toxic technology. In fact, the Sanders machine which produces parts very slowly in a small building envelope has superior accuracy than both the Actua and FDM machines. (Stratasys and other industry observers readily concede that the Sanders machine is very accurate but very slow at producing small prototypes of detailed items like jewelry. Approximately 75% of all of Sanders sales have been to jewelry designers.

Expect prices to drop once Stratasys is successfully challenged in its niche. Some engineers I spoke with could see no reason why these machines couldn't sell for around $25,000 in volume with competition. While I'm sure Stratasys and 3D don't forsee such a low price in the near future, Stratasys has warned about lower selling prices in their SEC filings.

Regards,
David
