<The real problem with the company is that it needs a management transplant.>

Finder: No disrespect intended to you, but I take a contrarian position: I think not only that the company is in good hands, but that Eric B is an absolute genius. Remember, he has worked his entire adult life at COMS and in the networking field, building the former into the #2 player in the fastest growing market sector. More than a year ago at a time when the stock was being trashed because of the unforeseen problems with USRX, he made the decision to place the company on the "edge" focusing not just on the small to mid-level enterprise market, but on the Palm Pilot. The latter - under his personal direction - is almost certain to be a huge winner.

No, as an engineer he is not the PR/hypster that Chambers is, but IMHO he is deserving of a high level of credibility. Recall that both at the Dec 22nd CC and at the tech conference of 1/22/99 he called it like it is: That this coming quarter is a historically difficult one and that there might not be sequentially increasing revenue and earnings, but that the company IS on track. Under Eric the company has been voted one of the top 2 or 3 companies in all the world to work for. He has attracted the necessary top-line talent such that the company is churning out record numbers of new patents and new products; so much so that (as I recall) some 2/3rds of all revenue comes from products that didn't exist one year ago. With a market cap that is tiny compared to CSCO, the company has earnings that are virtually the same and having a growth rate likely the same as well. It has cash in the bank of > 1 billion. What more could you want?
