Feb 5 (Reuters) - Legato Systems Inc. <LGTO.O>refuted market rumors on Friday, saying it did not suffered a large departure of its sales force. "The rumors that we have been hearing about the sales force are unfounded and not true," said Edward Cooper, director of investor relations at the computer data protection software maker. Legato's stock has fallen $12.88 in the past week, and was down $3.75 at $47.50 in mid-afternoon Nasdaq stock market trading. Cooper said the company saw "no logical reason" for the sharp decline in the stock price but pointed out the general decline in the technology sector of the stock market. "We think the market is reacting primarily on rumors and speculation," he told Reuters in a telephone interview.
