<<Time for you to take your message to
India, South America, and the continent of Africa>> This is true of course but you must realize that the US is less than 5% of the worlds population and produces more than 25% of it's pollution and uses more than 25% of her natural resources. Thus for every new one of us the problems are much more severe than a new birth in these underdeveloped countries. This is btw the only a short term perspective as these countries will come into the twentieth century eventually. And come with a vengeance they will. China with it's teeming billions will do so with coal! This is their stated policy as they have abundant supplies. What can we expect to be the results to the atmosphere from this? Will South America respect the rain forests if it is to their economic advantage not to do so? Who are we to tell them to do so? What is left to the great deciduous forests in middle America? The evergreen forests in the north? Very little I'm afraid. It was to our economic advantage to destroy these. Developed nations cannot expect undeveloped nations not to follow their lead. They want what we have and will not be told by us that they can't have it. The great demand for protein will destroy the fish stocks of the oceans. The green revolution has failed. The variety of seed stock is going fast. Irrigation is slowly destroying some of the most productive farmlands with salts. The question is not will their be a great crash in world populations but when!Yes I paint a doomsday scenario but with the prospect of ever growing populations it is inevitable.
