Y2K and CheckFree

I was looking for opinions on Y2K and what it might mean to CheckFree.

Most (if not all) US banks are committed to freezing all software and computer hardware June 30 1999. (This is also true of many billers, but they vary greatly.) This inactivity by the banks could seriously cut down on subscriber growth the second half of this year. If a bank has not implemented bill pay by 6/30/99 they will not be able to install until Jan 2000.

However, the inactivity by the banks may be a big opening for the portals. If CheckFree gets a couple of portals up and running (Yahoo and AOL or Excite) customers might flock to the portals and forget about the banks?

Also, if the Y2k problem prevents billers from coming on line this could be bad new for CheckFree.

any comments?
