HVN- I'm sorry, but previously on this forum you admitted you were a marketing person. I've known lots of marketing people who thought they understood technology. But after wasting hours and hours explaining how to use Windows, I have little respect for a marketing person who decides to lecture me on technology. I am an engineer. You're not going to be able to pull the wool over my eyes. Get over it.
"1. I've never stated that CDPD has speed. And coverage isn't great either "
I'm just pointing out how pathetic the CDPD speed is. Its UNUSABLE. Its is only useful as a paging service. THAT'S IT.
"2. CDPD does not cost $50+$0.05 per KB. it's FLAT rate. Check out AT&T's pricing."
The "Great Lie" of CDPD. They call their plans flat rate- but to AT&T Flat rate means "$0.10 a minute" or "$0.05 a kilobyte" I've read the plans in detail and when you do to, you will see the fine print.
"3. I guess since you're stating that the telcos are not behind CDPD"
Course, I never said that. When you have no facts, make them up, eh? You put words in my mouth to try and make me look the fool, but to the observant reader it is you who looks the fool. Telcos DON'T get data. That's why they wanna charge $0.05 a kilobyte.
"4. The reason it's difficult to get cell sites in towns is coz. many of the great sites have already been"
Oh, yeah, tell it to the thousands of NIMBY organizations around the coutnry who are fighting cell sites. Even with the "nice looking towers" that do NOT look like trees, nobody wants them.
It is a fact that no citizens group has protested the installation of Metricom radios... and it is a FACT that there are thousands of activists across the country trying to fight the installation of cell towers. I read in wired just the other day that telcos have taken to hiding them in church steeples in order to sneak them into towns.
"So, the next time you decide to get on your soap box, get your facts and issues right"
Funny, you didn't provide a single "fact" to dispute my claims. In fact, you agreed with them right off: "I've never stated that CDPD has speed. And coverage isn't great either"
Since my point was that Metricom has better speed AND coverage in the regions it covers, and you concede that right off the bat, then its clear who's got the facts in their corner.
Your continued use of the strawman technique (cliaming I said things I didn't) and lack of supporting evidence is amusing.
"Also, get some actual experience dealing with the marketplace with such products and business issues"
Ah, the cry of the marketeer. Actually, you have given no reason to question my experience having provided NO marketplace information nor Business issues. But it is convenient when you're not on solid ground to make it about ME rather than about the issues.
Go ahead, flame away. But it won't strengthen your points... oh, what were your points since you conceded mine already???
