David & Will

Thank you David for the reminder that a company is more than it's product. I appreciate hearing more about what makes the company tick (I already know what makes the product tick).

I know 3D is close to releasing a more verisatile material (probably not as strong as ABS though). I don't have a very reliable source (those 3D guys don't talk much), but I see that happening in the next 3-6 months. As for accuracy I have a sneaky suspicion that it is capable of some pretty good accuracy already. More on that in a month or so. We'll have our very own Actua next month (to put next to our FDM 1650) so I'll send some samples out to you guys so you can see for yourselves what I mean about surface finish and accuracy (and materials).

SSYS seems to be doing some niche invading on it's own with it's 8000. I see that machine taking away business that would probably have gone to DTM.

On metals- it will be a long time before an additive metal prototyping system is a profitable investment due to the cheapness and reliability of subtractive (i.e. NC machining) methods.

P.S. I don't know if you guys are in Atlanta much, but feel free to stop by our lab at Georgia Tech. Just send me some email if your going to be in the neighborhood: brian.vanhiel.rpmi.marc.gatech.edu
