Any broker that posts a message to the effect, "Service Unavailable" during trading hours needs to be investigated, and hauled into the court system if necessary to fix their problem* as opposed to making their problem the customer's problem. It makes no sense to me to force customers into a back-up brokerage scenario when they themselves have no functional back-up system. To Etrade I would say, fix your* problem or face the consequences. And if the consequences involve the courts, so be it. Ice
