WR--Thanks for the heads up. I caught most of Glickman and Co., Cargill and Suiza. All very predictable testimony. But did you hear Ken Evans, President of the Arizona Farm Bureau? Yep, a real techno savvy farmer tells it like it is. Made that comment by Glickman re: the 3% of farmer using computers to computers to raise animals and so we shouldn't worry, yaddah, yaddah, yaddah...seem pretty ill-informed if not outright stupid.

And Cheryl the man knew enough about chips and embedded systems in farming equipment to give you cause for admiration. He discussed how after 3 mos. and several thousands of dollars later he finally discovered and was able to fix a chip problem that shut down a combine during y2k testing. He also discovered that even
though chips may appear to come from the same manufacturer, have the same serial number and appear interchangeable they are in fact not in many cases. Some will fail during testing, others will not. He discussed the implications of farmer's relying on compliance statements or failing to test thoroughly. Should you get the opportunity to hear his testimony on CSPAN you should take it.

On another note, Glickman and Co. admitted that of the hundreds of surveys that were sent out to food manufacturers and processors in Dec. '98 only a few have been returned. The bottom line...They have no real info on the status of processors because few are talking. I now understand Preston's comments re: Bennet's criticism of Glickman's optimism though I missed that part of the testimony where Bennet dressed him down.
